International Standard

The International Standard style of ballroom is danced the world over, and encompasses what is most commonly thought of as ballroom dance. We see it in film, danced by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. We hear it in the music of Strauss. We think elegance, grace, tail suits and ball gowns. Originating in England, ballroom dance dates back to as early as the 16th century.
Today, ballroom tends to be associated with Dancesport. Danced both socially and competitively, International Standard ballroom is comprised of five dances: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, and Quickstep. (At the more advanced level of competition, in which these are danced one after another, it is called a "Five-Dance").
At Dance Fever Studio Marblehead, we take time to introduce you to the basics of each dance. With time, we'll take you as deeply into each style as you wish. Beginners may start with Waltz or Tango, then go on to the more quickly-paced dances. We work with you on technique and style, while focusing on making it an enjoyable and freeing experience.
Here's a bit more about the Standard Ballroom dances taught at Dance Fever Studio on the North Shore (Marblehead, MA).
